the CES Department
| Clinical Engineering Services (CES) is
responsible for the management of all* UCSD Healthcare’s patient
care equipment. That is, CES insures over 10,000 devices involved

CES assists the user departments with equipment
selection, procurement and delivery. We are responsible for incoming
inspection, setup, user training, and establishing preventative maintenance
procedures (PM) and timetables, then quickly remediate any unplanned
outages. These services may be provided by CES technical staff or
through external organizations or individuals. We are also responsible
for the environmental safety and equipment management program that
is designed to assess and control the clinical and physical risks
of fixed and portable equipment used for the diagnosis, treatment,
monitoring, and care of patients. |
| The CES technical staff, a combination
of Biomedical Engineering technicans and Development Engineering technicians,
by necessity incorporates a wealth of specialized talents and experience
to keep the wide diversity of equipment employed by UCSD Healthcare
functioning. CES maintains two fecilities, one at Hillcrest and one
at Thornton. Both shops report directly to the Director of Equipment
Management and Maintenance. The Hillcrest facility has nine technical
personnel two administrators and the dedicated services of two volunteers
a retired electrical engineer and a retired biomedical engineer. The
Thornton Hospital facility is currently staffed by two technical personnel.
